Bannister House - Gate, Posts and Railings, Berkshire

The client tasked us with creating an elegant set of gates featuring elaborate scrollwork and over a kilometre of estate railings for their country estate in rural Berkshire.

 

The Process

Ornate floral gates from the 1890s used for inspiration.

eNQUIRY/THe BRIEF

The client wanted us to create a set of gates, sympathetic to the design of the original gates; Italian made, mid-Victorian.

The original gates are still in place elsewhere on the estate.

 

Manufacture

The gates were manufactured in the workshop over the course of 2-3 weeks, using a mixture of forging and fabrication. All scrolls were fabricated by hand in the workshop.

 

DETAILING

Floral motifs and extensive scrollwork make up the body of these gates, scrolls are connected to one another using collars (traditionally heated and joined).

 

INSTALLATION

The gate installation took place over several day, with automation added during this time.

The railing were installed in the following days by the clients team.

 

Client was happy with the design and installation of the gates and railings.
